Our first day back in the Bay Area was spent exploring Oakland. By the time we got to downtown Oakland, our tummies were telling us it was time for breakfast. Caffe 817 seemed like a popular spot for a quick bite. Outdoor seating, cute dogs, live music, the smell of fresh berries from the farmer’s market… what more can you ask for?
John had the polenta with maple syrup ($5.50), and I had the polenta with a poached egg and blue cheese ($8). It never occurred to me to combine these ingredients, but it was quite tasty. I normally don’t eat much blue cheese, but I loved the saltiness it added to the creamy polenta. Not bad with mimosas! I’ll have to recreate this dish at home sometime.

atPolenta with poached egg sounds nice, but I think I would skip the blue cheese and just have some sea salt instead:)

atOooh, that would be delicious too!

atMmmmm, polenta in any combination is always a good option. We used to eat in with sautéed onions, tempeh and drizzled peanut butter. Yum! :)

atMmm, that sounds like a yummy combination! For some reason, I’ve never made polenta at home. That needs to change soon!
