Massage

If it’s your first time at Root Whole Body, a member of the staff will bring you on a tour of the wellness center, through the hallways, until you reach the locker rooms at the end. After changing into a cozy-but-lightweight robe (there are flip flops available too, if you need them), make your way to the tea room, where your practitioner will meet you. The tea room is also a great place to relax after your treatment.

I scheduled a massage with Sheila on my first visit. I recommend arriving early enough to squeeze in some time in the community sauna; I regret not planning for that. All the health and wellness products at Root Whole Body are cruelty-free (not tested on animals); you can request vegan products for treatments. I definitely dozed off during my massage and felt so refreshed afterwards. Sheila recommended stretches to practice at home to continue the benefits of the massage too.

Organic Facial

This organic facial at Root Whole Body was my first traditional facial in over a year. (I typically get hydrafacials at a spa in my neighborhood when my skin needs extra TLC as the seasons change.) This appointment with Enna was a wonderful reminder of the power of touch in esthetics. It left my skin extra bright and glowing! It was helpful to chat with Enna about my skincare routine and types of products for my skin concerns too.

Acupuncture

When I made my acupuncture appointment, I made sure to arrive a few minutes early so I could visit the community sauna, which can help aid treatment benefits. I was a little nervous as this was my first acupuncture and cupping experience. However, I felt comfortable and safe as Gina talked me through the process. There are many new-to-me sensations, but with the exception of one point on my head (which Gina promptly removed), none of them were uncomfortable. That night, I slept so loudly, and I’ve also noticed less tension in my upper back since this acupuncture appointment.

Blossoming Lotus Cafe at Root Whole Body

Blossoming Lotus Cafe

After a treatment at Root Whole Body wellness center, nourish yourself with plant-based goodness at Blossoming Lotus cafe and juice bar. If you’re familiar with Blossoming Lotus restaurant in NE Portland, you might recognize some of these flavors and dishes. However, Blossoming Lotus cafe at Root Whole Body has a more relaxed vibe with a menu of bowls, fresh juices, and herbal teas.

Here are a few highlights from the menu:

Immunity Shot: A blush pink wellness shot with a bit of a kick thanks to the immunity boosting mixture of lemon, ginger, and cayenne and served with an orange wedge.

Green Bowl: Layers of massaged kale (even the kale enjoyed a massage lol), edamame, avocado, massaged kale, cucumber, quinoa, toasted pepitas, cilantro, date jalapeno dressing. Pair it the Skin Toner for a bonus boost of green.

Kimchi Pasta Salad: Bouncy macaroni served with broccoli, coconut bacon (yum!), and peas with gochujang dressing and sesame seeds. This tasty bowl was on Blossoming Lotus cafe’s specials menu last time I visited.

Beet Crunch Salad: A hearty salad of roasted beets, massaged kale, coconut bacon, pickled celery, cucumbers, hemp seeds, and mustard seed dressing. I especially enjoyed the addition of pickled celery in this bowl.

Pesto Squash Pasta: If you love zoodles, don’t miss this summery take on pasta. Zucchini noodles with pecan pesto, cashew cream, sun dried tomatoes, arugula, cherry tomatoes, and hazelnut parmesan.
