Dolores Park, Mission, San Francisco

Dolores Park, Mission, San Francisco

John and I recently went back to the Bay Area for a wedding. Since it was our first time back since moving to the east coast, we made it a big trip and spent a few days playing tourist, catching up with friends, and visiting our favorite spots.

On Saturday afternoon, we visited Dolores Park with some friends. Unfortunately, half the park was closed for renovations, but we still found a good spot with an excellent view of the city. Oh man, I sure do miss San Francisco and its giant, almost the size of my upper arm burritos. Sorry, didn’t get any photos… it takes two hands to handle that thing. ;)

There were several people selling goodies at the park, but the most entertaining was the coconuts and rum guy with the crazy dreadlocks. For $12, he’ll hack open a coconut with a machete, fill it up with Captain Morgan, and ta da, a boozy coconut drink for you. Maybe it’s just me, but watching the little show he puts on every time someone buys a coconut seems much more appealing than the coconut water and rum cocktail.

What a beautiful picture! :) The “coconut show” sounds impressive, I would love to see him hack the coconut with the machete :) Maybe you’ve written more about your west to east coast transfer before I started following you, but I am curious, how did you handle it, what did you like, what you had to get used to, etc? :)

Thanks! The coconut show was quite fun to watch, but it made me nervous. I kept thinking “oh no, what if he accidentally misses the coconut and hits his hand!?”

I’ve actually transferred from east coast to west coast, then back to the east coast again! I think I adapt pretty easily to new places, probably because my family moved around a bit when I was young.

The weather is certainly much better in CA, and I tend to prefer the culture there more. More chill and relaxed. More vegan friendly :) and environmentally conscious too, but the east coast is getting better at that.

One thing I really love about NYC is how diverse it is in terms of what it offers and the demographics. Unfortunately, the Bay Area is so tech focused that it’s kind of a turnoff at times.

Oh, I didn’t thought like that, but now when you mention it, it sounds kinda scary.
Wow, you really moved a lot. Congrats on being so adaptive. In my 30 years I have never moved and I can’t imagine how long would I take to adjust. Though, if it was US, I would adapt alright! :) I am in love with NYC, but nicer weather and more health consciousness in CA is certainly tempting :)

It’s funny… the more I move from place to place, the more I realize that places and people are not all that different after all. :) I’m sure you would fit right in here in NYC or in CA! We have a couple friends moving to Boulder, CO. I haven’t visited that area yet, but from what I heard, I think you guys would enjoy it too!

San Francisco looks like such a nice summer getaway. It’s one of those places I’ve always wanted to go back to, but now it’s been almost 8 years since my last visit. Coconut water and rum probably sounds better than it tastes?

You should definitely make a trip back there! It’s sunny, but never really feels like summer. We were so bundled up the entire time. Wish I brought a real coat with me! :P

I don’t really like coconut water to begin with… can’t imagine that rum would make it any better, haha.
