Taqueria Moran, Chicago

Last weekend, we made a quick trip to the Chicago area for Leslie’s graduation. We crashed at Cathy’s place in Logan Square on Friday night. On Saturday, we had breakfast at Taqueria Moran just around the corner. A little Mexican restaurant that reminded me very much of Frausto’s in Berkeley.

Chips! Salsa! Pickled veggies! Huge entrees! Despite the gloomy weather, we were feeling quite cheerful, thanks to breakfast. Cathy ordered the Huevos con Chorizo ($4.95). Taqueria Moran

John got the Moran Omelette ($6.50), which has avocado, white cheese, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. For whatever reason, it has never occurred to me to put avocado in an omelette. I always keep the avocado on the side. I’ll have to try that sometime. Taqueria Moran - Moran Omelette

I almost ordered the Huevos Rancheros, then I remembered that we make that all the time at home. Time to indulge… with a chicken burrito ($4.95) for breakfast! Cathy highly recommended the lengua (tongue) burrito, but I thought I’d stick to a more familiar meat, lol. Flour tortilla with chicken chunks, rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. I was amazed by how juicy and tender the chicken was. It’s been a while since I’ve had a burrito with meat in it. Half the burrito was plenty for me. Cathy took the other half home.
