John and I recently celebrated our 6-year anniversary. We’re one of those couples that has a lot of anniversaries. It’s been 6 years since our first date. Date night! It was nice to take a break from packing and get away from our apartment for a little bit. I’ve visited Candle Cafe West once and have been wanting to come back for date night.
Grilled BBQ Quesadilla ($14): whole wheat tortillas, grilled seitan, veggies, bean puree, tapioca cheese, guacamole, salsa. The grilled seitan was very tasty. I’ll have to try adding a black bean puree next time we make quesadillas. Also, must buy whole wheat tortillas!Cajun Seitan Sandwich ($16): grilled focaccia, cajun crusted seitan, arugula, grilled red onion, avocado, ancho chili aioli, field green salad. I had a feeling John was going to order this. Blurry picture as John couldn’t wait to start eating!I ordered the Fall Risotto ($19), which was one of their seasonal entrees. Wild mushrooms, squash, cashew cream sauce, fried leeks. I really enjoyed this. Lovely combination of flavors and textures, especially the pureed squash. Never thought a vegan risotto would be so creamy!

atCongratulations!
Candle Cafe West sounds like an interesting place. I don’t have any experience with vegan restaurants, but Candle Cafe West sounds like a good place to start (whenever I’m lucky enough to visit NYC again:).

atIt’s a good one! Perhaps I can make some recommendations next time you’re in NYC. :)
