New York is one of those places, where you might hit it off and share some great laughs with a friend of a friend of a friend, but then you never see that person again except maybe on Facebook or Instagram. Something about turning 30 soon has made me put more effort into reconnecting with friends and reaching out to fun people I wish I had gotten to know better.
That’s how this dinner date with Rachel happened. We met through friends years ago, and after all this time liking each other’s food photos, we finally got together to eat! Good times!
If you like meatsballs, head on over to the The Meatball Shop to get your fix. #yayballz! Wines start at $7, so you can drink up and not worry about breaking the bank. I had heard they make a killer veggie ball here, but never got a chance to try it ’til now. I got the naked veggie balls with mushroom gravy ($9), risotto under ($6), and the family jewels a.k.a. a fried egg ($2) on top.
The Meatball Shop’s veggie balls are pretty heavy on lentils. They’re quite dense and filling, and I ended up taking a couple balls home to share with John. At first, he was worried the balls would be too mushroomy, but he happily gobbled it up. The risotto was nice, especially with the mushroom gravy. As much as I liked the fried egg, a poached egg would have been better. All in all, it was definitely tasty enough to convince me to come back for more balls!
