Looking for a way to relax and unwind? Book yourself a visit to The Springs at Knot Springs health club and wellness spa in Portland. You can thank me afterwards. ;)
The Springs at Knot Springs
Located within The Yard luxury apartments in Portland’s Central Eastside, Knot Springs is not your ordinary gym. You’ll find strength and conditioning classes at the fitness club, yoga and meditation classes at the yoga studio, and massages and body treatments at the spa. But most memorable attraction at Knot Springs is the soaking springs.
Inspired by the natural hot springs of the Alvord Desert, The Springs at Knot Springs offer a contemporary urban soaking springs experience, complete with panoramic views of the Portland skyline and Willamette River. The springs enclosure is constructed of wood, concrete, steel, and glass, with touches of greenery throughout.
After checking in at the Knot Springs lobby on the ground floor, make your way upstairs to The Springs. (The fitness club and yoga studio are located on upper floors too.) Once you’ve changed into your bathing suit and packed your belongings into a locker, enjoy a exfoliation shower before you officially enter The Springs.
Ten Steps to Relaxation
The recommended “Ten Steps to Relaxation” is there as a guide, but you can also choose your own adventure. For round one, I followed all ten steps: shower, warm pool, hot pool, cold plunge, sauna, cold plunge, steam, cold plunge, warm pool, rest and rehydrate. The soaking pools are wonderfully relaxing, and the sauna helped relieve some stiffness in my neck and back. For round two, I skipped a couple cold plunges because I could barely stay in there for more than a few seconds — it’s the kind of cold that you feel deep in your bones!
After the sauna and steam room, help yourself to a glass of water (room temperature, warm, or sparkling) or soothing herbal tea to rehydrate. I enjoyed sipping herbal tea as I settled back into the hot and bubbly caldarium. If you need a break from soaking, wrap yourself up in a fluffy Pendleton towel and recline on one of the chairs to enjoy views of Portland.
Book Your Visit to Knot Springs
Visit The Springs for some me time or come with friends for a communal experience. Keep in mind that between the soaking pools, echoey surfaces, and folks chatting, it can get pretty loud in the space, so this may not necessarily be suited for quiet reflection. If you book a treatment at the Knot Springs spa, you’ll have an opportunity to enjoy a soak as part of your spa package.
I was invited by Knot Springs to experience The Springs. As always, all opinions are my own.
