I partnered with Genesis Juice to bring you this post. As always, all opinions are my own.
I love a good smoothie bowl. I mean, how can you not, when smoothie bowls are the perfect balance of healthy and pretty? When Genesis Juice asked me to whip something up for a healthy new year, the image of a vibrant green smoothie bowl immediately popped into my head! I’m usually more of a berry smoothie kind of gal, but with Greenery being Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year and my new year’s resolutions to eat more greens still fresh on the mind, I decided that kale would be a fitting complement to Genesis Juice’s Ginger Lemonade.
Before you balk at a kale smoothie, give this recipe a chance! I love kale, but I can only handle so much of it in a smoothie. The flavors from the lemonade and other ingredients balance the flavor of the kale. The lively hint of garlic and sweetness of the agave in the lemonade add a nice finishing touch! Even my husband, who is happy to eat kale, but refuses to drink kale smoothies, drank his share without any complaints. Kale yeah!
Green Smoothie Bowl
Makes two smoothie bowls
Ingredients
2 frozen bananas
1 apple, cored
5 large kale leaves (discard the stems)
1 bottle of Genesis Juice Ginger Lemonade
Toppings: chia seeds, blueberries, coconut flakes
Combine the juice, frozen bananas, apple, and kale, in a blender. Blend until smooth. If you don’t have frozen bananas, you can use regular bananas and add ice to achieve the right consistency. Transfer to bowls and add toppings. Enjoy immediately.

athahahaha, where did you get that spoon?! so cute :) what i find so strange is how kales we have here don’t look like that at all! :/

atThanks! The spoon is part of a special collection I created in collaboration with jessicaNdesigns.com. They’re so fun!
My guess is the most common varieties of kale you have over there are different from what we have here. This curly leaf kind is at every grocery store here.

atI need to order those spoons! I made kale smoothie last week, it got a bit too thick, but got it down ;) Yours look so delicious.

atThanks, Hanna! Haha, a thick kale smoothie sounds like a bit much for me to handle. If you’re interested in the spoons, they’re still available here: http://tinyurl.com/nom-spoons

at*LOL* you know how I used to despise kale? Though I’ve come to my senses and now I actually like it a lot, but yeah, one should be cautious with kale in smoothies or it will taste like vegetable soup. Love the bright green color of your smoothie bowl:)

atHaha, how could I forget? You know you’re a grown up when a vegetable you used to despise is now one you really enjoy. ;) I actually make blended kale soups pretty regularly too, but I go heavy on cayenne and nutritional yeast to make it a savory dish.

atOur friend tricked her picky husband to drinking a smoothie made of kale and she succeeded! I wonder if I can do that to my husband too. lol. I am also a bit skeptic if it will taste good, and yes even if you have tested it yourself. :D I still have thar “sure?” at the back of my mind. But I guess the taste of apple, bananas and lemonade will help? hahaha. Can one use any lemonade alternative – not sure if we have that brand here… I might give it a try. Looks healthy!
