Underdog is an organic hot dog and sausage joint in the Inner Sunset district. All their food is organic, and their motto is “real food for real people”. After visiting the Hidden Garden Steps, we came here to pick up lunch before heading to Golden Gate Park. It’s hard to miss this place as you’re walking down the street, and that sausage dog open sign is perfection.
Even though we were spoiled for choices with 9 vegan sausages available, we were boring and ordered the exact same thing: the vegan bratwurst ($5). We added sauerkraut as a topping ($1.35 per topping), as well as dijon mustard and dill relish.
We brought our dogs and a couple drinks to Strawberry Hill, the island in the middle of Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park. Not a bad place for lunch, and you can do what John did and take a nap on a large log after your meal.
A little messy to eat, but the dogs held together reasonably well in our takeout boxes. That sausage had an excellent texture. Good for satisfying meat cravings without being too salty, and the sauerkraut and relish were nice too. Went well with the honey basil beer.
It’s too bad they accidentally gave me a white bun instead of the wheat bun I requested. It might have held together better, and I almost always prefer the texture of wheat bread. All in all, I’d say Underdog is a top dog when it comes to cheap organic eats!

atLove those small, independent places. Unfortunately, there are only very few of them in Dubai, and none of them serve organic hotdogs:) I really like your San Francisco food posts, they really make me want to visit the city again:)
