Picante, Harlem

Wow, this entry is way overdue. I recently discovered these photos on my iPhone from when we had brunch at Picante for John’s birthday back in September. One of the first restaurants we’ve visited in our neighborhood.

We had a $40 restaurant.com coupon, so we had to order A LOT of food. 3 entrees and 2 drinks. Plenty of leftovers! The inside of this restaurant was pretty awful. Dark, dingy, kind of disgusting. It was a bit chilly outside, but I was happier at an outdoor table.

This was the first time I had fresh guacamole since moving to NYC. I love avocados and guacamole. California has spoiled me so much. Chips, GuacamoleJohn ordered the eggs tortas (think Mexican sandwich), and, as always, started eating before I had a chance to snap a photo. I ordered the chicken chalupas: home made thick corn tortilla with chicken, red sauce, onions, monterrey cheese, and avocado. Wow. Chicken ChalupasWe also ordered chicken quesadillas to share. Ahh, so much guacamole! I love it. Chicken QuesadillasRed SangriaNot the most amazing Mexican food I’ve ever had, considering that we did go to Cancun for our honeymoon and filled our bellies with yummy goodness. (Hmm, maybe I should dig up honeymoon food photos and post here?) But Picante is not bad for a neighborhood restaurant. Prices are very reasonable, portions are large, and I’m pretty sure they deliver too. Can’t really complain. I just wish the inside of the restaurant was a tad bit nicer.
