Crumbs & Whiskers, Georgetown, DC

I know, I know… this is quite a departure from what I normally write about, but I am a crazy cat lady and a cat cafe is still a cafe, right? =^.^=

One of the highlights of my DC trip back in October was our afternoon at Crumbs & Whiskers in Georgetown. I’ve never been to a cat cafe before, and even though I have plenty of cat at home with Chloe and Tony, I don’t mind a little more cat in my life.

It was afternoon nap time when we visited, and most of the cats were curled up in baskets or cat beds. There were a few little guys who were awake and very playful. Most of the cats at C&W seemed pretty young and the ones I interacted with were all very well socialized.

I was surprised that even though you can order tea, coffee, and baked goods at C&W, none of it is prepared there. After placing an order, someone runs out to pick it up from a nearby cafe. We sipped on hibiscus tea while hanging out with the kitties, and poor Lisa rinsed down her allergy medication with the tea. By the way, how cute is the cat swag?

The second floor of C&W is perfect for curling up with a book and a cat. The space is white and bright, and it felt very calming for most of our visit. It did get much noisier later in the day when more visitors showed up. When it’s quiet though, it’s almost like a spa, but with kitty cats.

I have to say that I was impressed by how clean C&W is, especially when there are about a dozen cats living there. Not a trace of litter or fur on the wooden floors. Also, where do they hide the litter boxes?!

During our visit, I made friends with this beautiful little girl(?) with unique coloring. I suspect she was a newcomer as she didn’t have a collar and was a bit nervous around some of the other cats. We shared some bonding time, and at one point, she even reached out to touch my face. Reminds me of my Chloe cat, but not as talkative.

Overall, C&W is a great spot to hang out with cat loving friends. You don’t have to play or cuddle with the cats the entire time. It’s nice too to catch up with friends while the kitties roam around you.

Just this morning, I read that a cat cafe in Vancouver closed temporarily because all their cats were adopted. Hope all the kitties at C&W find their forever home soon too!

My dream is to open a cat cafe, but first, I need to visit one. I am right in Maryland, and I have heard a lot about this, but I haven’t had a chance to visit. I could spend days here. It is wonderful that all the little kitties found homes in Vancouver! What a great concept.

Hope you can visit soon. It’s in such a good location too. I’m sure lots of people will randomly stumble across it while wandering through Georgetown. Hope you’ll get to open your own cat cafe someday soon! :)
