San Marzano has been on our to try list for a while. I mean, $9 fresh house made pasta is seriously hard to beat. They closed for some time earlier this year after the devastating gas explosion across the street. Three buildings, completely gone. The empty lot is an eerie reminder of what happened. Sigh.

We arrived right as San Marzano opened for brunch at 11am, and more customers soon started rolling in. We went for the $10 bottomless mimosas instead of the $4 single glasses, and our waiter did a fantastic job with refills. I started with the Baby Arugula Salad ($8) with beets, goat cheese, pecans, and lemon vinaigrette. I seem to be on an arugula salad kick lately.

You can mix and match pasta and sauces, but I picked the Pear & Gorgonzola Ravioli ($9) with toasted walnuts, thyme, and shallots in a cream sauce. I’ll admit it’s not the prettiest looking dish, but the flavors were very nice and not too rich. The pear was subtle, and the raviolis were starting to fall apart, but can’t complain when it’s only $9.

John went with the sweets and dessert route once again. This is a reoccurring brunch theme for him. He got the brioche French Toast ($7) and the Ricotella ($7) fried dough pocket filled with ricotta and nutella.
