In early October, I was invited to visit Abbey Road Farm, a 82-acre bed and breakfast and event venue in the heart of Oregon wine country. If you’re looking for a wine tasting experience in a picturesque setting, make sure this spot is on your list. And if the wines here seem familiar, that’s because the owners also own Quaintrelle<\/a>, one of my favorite restaurants<\/a>, as they serve some of Portland’s most exquisite vegetable dishes.<\/p>\n

The 2020 harvest was in full swing, and the winemakers were busy with sorting, punch downs, barrel filling, and much more. There’s something extra special about enjoying a tasting while harvest is underway. <\/span>The tasting flight features several winemakers and labels in the Abbey Road Farm collective, beginning with the sparkling pinot gris, featuring artwork of Snowball the alpaca on the label, and culminating with the complex James Rahn pinot meunier.<\/p>\n

As we sipped on wine, we enjoyed blue skies, fluffy clouds, lush greens, and sunshine. We also wandered around the farm to explore the bountiful gardens and meet the animals, including several friendly chickens roaming the property. The owners of Abbey Road Farm have restored the wetlands and landscaping to serve as a natural habitat for the animals to enjoy. I’ve heard that there’s even a peacock that lives on the property.<\/p>\n

There was plenty of outdoor seating, so you can socially distance and safely enjoy your wine. The tasting room is also set up with hand sanitizers and separate entrance and exit to create a one way flow of traffic. Everyone was masked, except when they were seated at a table for wine tasting.<\/p>\n

Next time I visit Abbey Road Farm, I’ll have to book a night at one of the converted silo suites. Until then, I brought three bottles of wine home with me and look forward to reliving this magical fall day when I open them.
