Workshop PDX, Botanical & Gift Shop in NW Portland

Work/Shop PDX, Portland

It was love at first sight when I stumbled across Workshop PDX on Instagram. Let me set the scene for you… we had just decided to move to Portland, and I was curious about what kind of shops I would find in our new neighborhood. There it was, an adorable boutique packed with fresh botanicals, locally made jewelry, natural beauty products, letterpress greeting cards, and succulents for days! Be still, my succulent loving heart! All this was within a short walk of the apartment we had just signed a lease for.

When I finally got to meet the lovely Workshop PDX in person, it was just as charming as I had imagined. I’ve popped in here to build a terrarium, pick up fresh flowers, learn how to make bathbombs, attend a PDX bloggers meetup, and admire the beautifully organized shelves. This weekend will be their last in the current space at NW 19th and Lovejoy, and I thought this would be perfect time to share some of my favorite snapshots of this darling shop. Don’t worry, they’re not closing down. Workshop is moving to a new space at NW 9th and Davis in the Pearl.

Whenever I’ve visited for drop-in classes, the staff has always reminded me to take photos of the recipes so I can make them at home. No more splurging on bath products at Lush! However, it is helpful to take a class at Workshop first to learn how to mold the bath bombs and get recommendations for essential and fragrance oils. My favorite combo is lavender and eucalyptus — so soothing and relaxing!

Botanical Bath Bombs
2 tablespoons baking soda
4 tablespoons corn starch
4 tablespoons epsom salt
4 tablespoons citric acid
4 teaspoons oil (coconut, avocado, etc)
1 teaspoon water
1/2 to 1 teaspoon fragrance oil, based on preference
Dried botanicals

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Transfer to a bath bomb mold, then tap it against the table to ensure the all ingredients have settled. Let sit or place in the freezer to speed things up. Makes 1 large bath bomb or 2 small ones.

Botanical Bath Salts
4 tablespoons epsom salt
4 tablespoons himalayan pink salt
2 tablespoons dried botanicals
10 drops essential oil

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Transfer to a glass container. Use for a quick foot bath or a full body soak.
