On our latest trip to LA, we spent a day at Universal Studios Hollywood. We were lucky enough to visit on a day that wasn’t too crowded and never had to wait more than 30 minutes for any attraction. If you missed my first post about Universal Studios Hollywood, which focuses on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, click here.
Visiting the Park
No need to worry about getting stuck in traffic as you don’t have drive to Universal Studios. We rode the Metro from downtown LA, and there’s a free shuttle on the other end that goes directly from the Metro station to the park. It’s a short shuttle ride, but unless you’re in the mood for a bit of a hike, I recommend taking the shuttle as it’s entirely uphill to the park. On the way back, it’s a reasonable downhill walk.
Vegan & Vegetarian Options
Before our visit, I came across Universal Studio’s dietary food guide. Unfortunately, it doesn’t mention much overlap between the vegetarian and dairy-free options. It’s also unclear how current and accurate the guide is. I did, however, read about a vegan noodle salad online, but the bistro serving it was closed when we visited. It’s a good thing Lisa Simpson is vegetarian, and we settled on the Mother Nature burger (minus the cheese) at Krusty Burger. If you want something that’s 100% confirmed vegan, you’re better off bringing your own packed lunch.
Park Attractions
Other than Harry Potter, the biggest attraction at the park is Downtown Springfield. It’s as fun and colorful as the TV show! You can grab a donut with Chief Wiggum, sip beers at Duff Beer garden, shop at the Kwik-E-Mart, then hop on the Simpson’s Ride to Krustyland.
When our feet were tired, we hopped on the Studio Tour around the corner from Springfield. On the tour, we caught a quick glimpse inside Cloud9 at the Superstore set. When we got into Jurrasic Park territory, a pervy little dinosaur squirted water down my shirt. You’ve been warned!
Take advantage of the single rider line as much as possible — John was on and off the Mummy ride faster than it took me to locate and use the restroom. (Rollercoasters aren’t my thing, so John rides them alone.)
Work up the courage to enter The Walking Dead with a beer or two. We started binge watching WTD about a month earlier, so the attraction, which combines animatronics and live performers, was another highlight for us. It’s really well done and contains props and scenes straight out of the show. We made it out alive!
